From the results of the survey, we clarified the current situation of sex education in educational settings and the needs for sex education conducted by midwives.\nThe current state of sex education in schools is that there are differences in the approach taken by each educational institution and differences in awareness among teachers. These factors influenced their satisfaction with sex education. Also, as the number of years of experience as a school nurse increased, the success or failure of their sex education accumulated. These experiences also influenced their satisfaction with sex education. Furthermore, it was found that many school nurses felt the difficulty of sex education. From the survey results showed that the factor was their lack of professional knowledge about sexuality. They also seemed to find it difficult to communicate sexual matters. How to consider the students’ diverse gender and developmental stages, and how to consider their family environment were factors that made them feel that sex education was difficult.\nMany school nurses felt that midwives were needed in sex education settings. It was found that midwives have a high need for sex education at educational institutions. Their expectations for sex education by midwives were as follows; “Providing specialized knowledge about sexuality” “Talking about the importance of life based on real experiences” “Raising students’ self-esteem” “to nurture their minds of “caring for others and themselves””. On the other hand, there were also opinions that there were concerns about the content being too specialized or too advanced, suggesting the importance of pre-meetings in order to grasp the needs of schools.\nIn the future, sex education should not end up as one-off lectures, but should be positioned as part of a continuous class that incorporates bioscience-based content based on “life and death education”.
